WOYWW No 167. A new artist's journal

Greetings All.

Here we are again on the weekly round of desks starting with Julia Dunnit's Stamping Ground. Follow the link to see desks and tools, people and their ideas from many parts of the world.

This week I have my new journal on the desk. I went to a workshop with my long-time supplier up in Melbourne, Kathy. She has a few people who run very pleasant and instructive workshops which I enjoy and this Saturday was exceptionally good. Kathy has wanted to run an Artist's Journal class for ages. Roll on the rest of the classes.

I've been making notes about what we did and putting some finishing touches that there was not time to fiddle with. The journal is made with rag paper and was supplied as part of the class. We created four pages in which we explored some materials and techniques. You can see the journal standing in this photo which shows the rough edges of hand-pulled paper. To the left is a greeting card and some other cards illustrating StampScapes sent to me by Shaz in Oz. Thank you most kindly! On the right are a couple of purchases - the Penny Black stamp used in the journal, a Cuttle Hug, and some little cheap'n'cheerful stamps.
Journal surrounded by Shaz' cards, new stamps, and the usual melee of things within reach.
Here is a close-up of one of the pages we did using 200gsm watercolour paper, the Penny Black stamp, Twinks, Distress Markers and Lyra crayons. It was great fun, and went over time since this was the 'road test' for it. Did we mind? Note the colour key on the opposite page. Love this.

All the best for the week until next time.

That sounded a great workshop Ros, no wonder you enjoyed it.
I loved seeing the journal and was just thinking..."oh I'd love to see inside" and voilĂ  you opened it!
I have a copy of East of Eden by John Steinbeck that has similar pages. I think it definitely adds a little something extra to what's on the paper.
Too busy walking first thing and having a cuppa with a friend so hence Neesie is #30 today! ;D
Enjoy the day ~ the sun's out!

Wow Ros, Blogger was obviously playing up last night when I visited, because I never saw the second picture of the journal! That's absolutely stunning - I love the blue flower and the beautiful green border and text. Absolutely gorgeous. Don't those deckle edges look marvellous? I love your butterfly stencils too.

Thanks for your lovely comment! I never thought of my work desk as a cockpit before lol! It's not nearly as well organised as I'd like, and if it was better, I'd have more surface to work on. One day I shall be properly organised!!

I half-made another core'dinations flower today with more layers. My old glue gun is so useless that I ordered another one on Ebay which came today, and it's even worse! The wretched thing didn't work at all to start with, till I poked some plastic out of the electrical socket so contact could actually be made, and then it dribbled glue constantly. It's going back. I've now spent serious money on what looks to be a really good one - I've decided if you want decent tools you've got to pay for them. I use the glue gun a lot, so it's worth it.

Can't wait for the Paralympics! I'm in a sort of bereavement after the end of the Olympics - stunning stuff!

Oh my golly gosh - I love that journal page and the stamp you used is fabulous.

Laughed here about ditching the idea of making the cards liners - best advice of the week Ros :)

Hi Ros, love snooping round your desk, there's always good things going on. Love your journal ... it reminds me of lovely shop I discovered in Amalfi, full of handmade paper, notebooks and journals - the pages had the same edges as yours. Your page is beautiful too - the stamp is terrific.

Hope you have a lovely weekend. Elizabeth x #54

Hi Ros, and lol!! Sounds like me! We're all so eager to try and get that No. 1 slot, aren't we... Anyway, as I pop back on here again, Beastly Blogger is definitely playing Silly Bloggers today because nobody's pics are loading properly. I'm getting the top 1/4 in. of your pics and that's all, but at least it's better than some, that are giving me only a tiny white rectangle. I WISH they'd sort these problems out - it's been going on 18 months now and I'm soooo sick of it. Blogger used to work fine before that.

Have a great weekend.
